One of you swings the mallet, the other turns the dough in between. Go faster to make more mochi — but if the mallet lands on a hand, that's a bandage.
Watch the ring round the mortar. White means pound. Clay with a gap at the front means fold — the gap is where your hand goes. A red line sweeping round means the mallet is on its way down: keep out until it lands, and how much is left of it is how long you have.
Once you press POUND there is no stopping it. The folder's hand lifts and hovers for a moment before it goes in, so the one on the mallet can see it coming and wait.
A pound only counts on dough that has been folded since the last one — hit it twice in a row and nothing happens. Hot dough takes about 8 good pounds to become a mochi. It cools while you dawdle, goes dull, and then needs more.
The shop is open for 60 seconds. Three bandages and it shuts early. On your own you do both jobs, one thumb each. Pick who stands where under the picture before you start.
Taking turns? ↺ restart at the top goes back to the start, where the next pair can pick who they are.
On a computer: S pounds, K folds, and Esc goes back to the start.
