FUNCTION MACHINE

A machine eats a number and a different number comes out. Work out what it is doing, then say what the gold number will give.

The table shows three numbers the machine has already eaten and what came out of it. ▶ PUT IT IN feeds it any number you like, as many times as you want — but the clock is running. When you think you know what it does, type what the gold number will give and press ✓ MY ANSWER. Get it wrong, or let the clock run out, and a bulb blows. Three blown bulbs and it is over.
