⚽ SPOT KICK

SPOT KICK

Pick who you are

Five kicks each. The keeper has to commit before you shoot — so a ball in the very corner beats a correct guess, and one down the middle does not.

How to play ▾

Shooting. Swipe from the ball. Which way you lean the swipe is how far across the goal it goes, how long the swipe is decides how high, and how fast you flick it is how hard you hit it. A hard shot gives the keeper less time — and wanders further from where you aimed. There is no aiming line: you have to feel it.

Keeping. The goal splits into six corners, and the six pads in the bottom corner of the screen are laid out the same way. Hold your thumb on them, slide to the one you want and lift. Your thumb covers your choice, so nobody has to look away. You must pick before the ball is kicked — that is what makes a corner beat a correct guess.

The cup. On your own you take on the other seven, one full shootout at a time. Win and you go through; lose one and the run is over. Your score is every goal you score plus every save you make, so both ends count. Each one has a habit — one of them always goes high, one is pure clockwork — and spotting it is the whole game.

On a laptop. The keeper picks with Q W E along the top and A S D underneath, in the shape of the goal. The shooter moves the marker with the arrows and holds SPACE for power.
