Every character is built from smaller pieces. Tap them in the right order before the forge goes cold.
Some pieces carry the meaning, some are only there for the sound — the bench tells you which is which.
The bar at the top is the forge cooling. Run out of time and you lose a heart and that character is gone. Put the wrong pieces in and you lose a heart too, but you get another go at the same one.
Three hearts gone and the forge goes out. The bench always has a piece on it that would build a different character, so read what you are being asked for.
