🥁 COPY THAT BEAT

Listen first, play second

ROUND 1 SCORE 0 ♥♥♥ 90 BPM

The machine plays a beat on the squares. It ticks a bar to count you in, then it is your turn to play the same thing back on the four pads — same drum, same place in the bar. The dashed squares on the left are your run-up: nothing ever lands in there, and nothing you play in there counts, so coming in a little early costs you nothing. Get the whole bar right and the next one has one more tap in it. Get anything wrong and you lose a heart and hear the same beat again. When the bar is full it starts speeding up instead. On a computer the pads are D F J K.

Free Play has no hearts and no score. Tap the squares to build a beat of your own and it loops round for ever. It starts two bars long — use the bars buttons to make it up to four, and slide the grid sideways with your finger when it is wider than the screen.
