Go and mow the Old House's lawn

THE OLD HOUSE'S LAWN

It needs a mow. Cut the long grass — and hold LIFT to go over whatever's lying in it.

WHAT'S IN THE GRASS

A rock or a sprinkler chips the blade — three chips and you're done. Anything else just loses your streak.

RockChips the blade. The one with a white scrape has been hit.

SprinklerChips the blade too. The spray can't hurt you — it's there so you spot the sprinkler from a long way off.

HoseRight across the lawn, so there's no way round. Cut it and water sprays everywhere.

Dog's ballRolls from side to side. Hit it and it pops.

DucksA mother duck and her ducklings out for a walk. The whole line counts.

ChookOut of the chook pen and pecking about. Startle it and it flaps off in a huff.

Flower bedYou can't go over it, even with the blade up. Walk into it and you stop dead.

Golden grassWorth five times as much — and usually right next to something you'd rather not hit.
CUT IT!

Mow the Old House's lawn: cut the long grass for points, and hold LIFT to go over whatever's lying in it — you're safe, but you cut nothing while the blade is up.

How to play ▾

Long grass is dark and shaggy. The light, striped grass has been mowed already and is worth nothing.

Keep cutting long grass and your streak climbs — ×2, ×3, all the way to ×8. Every bit you cut is worth that many points, and golden grass is worth five times as much again. Hitting anything loses the streak.

The blade takes a moment to go up and down, so lift a little early and let go as soon as you're over. A clang with the blade only half up says TOO LATE.

Only the blade hits things, and it sits just behind the front of the mower — so a rock can slide under the side of the mower and miss it.

Three chips and the blade has had it. The Old House's lawn goes on for ever and gets faster every 20 seconds, so the question is how far you get.
